Swimming Lessons for Brookshire Students

From August 28 to October 12, 2018, students at Brookshire Elementary made their way to Cady Way Pool where they splashed, kicked, and had a whole lot of fun as they improved their swimming skills.  236 Brookshire students from Kindergarten through fifth grade received lessons from Coach Topps and volunteers.

As always, it takes a village to make special programs like this successful.  Thanks to the City of Winter Park Parks & Recreation, the Track Shack Youth Foundation, and the Brookshire Additions Volunteers & PTA for their support!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and #ThankATeacher with the National PTA!

Teachers provide so much to our students—inspiration, motivation and, ultimately, their futures. From May 7-11, 2018, the National PTA would like to show their thanks and gratitude by treating them like a V.I.T. – VERY IMPORTANT TEACHER.

Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day, and their work and impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Join us and the National PTA during PTA Teacher Appreciation Week to #ThankATeacher for all that they deliver to our nation’s children.

Help Make Your Child’s School Healthier: Take the Survey!

Action for Healthy Kids and National PTA, with support from ALDI, have embarked on an important initiative to create an online community that parents can use to help make their children’s schools healthier.

As part of this process, they are conducting a survey of parents with children in kindergarten to sixth-grade to see what kind of information would be helpful to you. The comments you provide are confidential and critical to ensuring they are meeting the needs of parents and school health advocates.

As a thank you for your participation, if you would like to be eligible for a random drawing of survey respondents to receive a $50 ALDI gift card, you will have the option to provide your email address upon completion of the survey. Winners will be awarded after Feb. 20.

This survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey by Feb. 24, 5 p.m. CST.

National Teacher Appreciation Week – May 2-6, 2016

Teachers give us so much (see this infographic detailing just how much they give). A boost of confidence when we really need one. Extra help when we’re having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. And though we know we can’t ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation Week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.

Join NEA and the National PTA in saying “Thank You” by sharing one of the following on social media during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6:

  • A picture of yourself with your favorite teacher, past or present;
  • A picture of your child with his or her teacher;
  • A picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with a simple message saying Thank You to a teacher and why you’re thanking him or her.

Be sure to use the hashtag #ThankATeacher when sharing.

You can also share this graphic to spread the word to your friends!

Planning for Teacher Appreciation Week

To help you plan for the week, the National PTA has created a Promotional Event Toolkit with ideas and resources you can use to honor teachers. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Send a thank you card to a special teacher in your life or a teacher of a child in your life.
  • Show your support for the tremendous work teachers do by volunteering in a classroom.

This National Teacher Appreciation Week, let’s show our teachers how much they mean to us!

Dommerich Elementary Family Garden Day

DommerichGarden Day 1 Elementary hosted it’s annual Family Garden Day on October 3, 2015 from 9-11AM.

This year’s theme was “Butterfly Gardening” with guest speaker Dr. Robert Bowden from Leu Gardens.  The Kindergarten children started the morning with singing ‘The Garden Song’.  After listening to Dr. Bowden, the children and families rotated through the following four stations set up around the garden and PE field:

1.  Decorate a pot and choose a butterfly plant

2.  Create a beaded butterfly and/or caterpillar decoration for your potted plant

3.  Read Aloud Station:   listen to stories about butterflies and gardening

4.  Snack station:  Create a celery and cream cheese butterfly. Garden Day 3

With 250 in attendance, this beautiful morning offered snacks from our partners in education, helpful information for starting a butterfly garden and lots of opportunities for fresh air and visiting with friends!

Cari Rotenberger is the Chair of the PTA Garden Committee which consists of 12 members.  Lisa Rotenberger, Kindergarten Teacher,  is the School Garden Coordinator and works closely between the committee and the teachers and staff.  All were in attendance to help set up, man the stations and clean up afterward!

This was a wonderful event!
