Healthy Snack List from Audubon Park Elementary

At Audubon Park Elementary, students’ health and wellness are important.

The Healthy School Team (HST) at Audubon Park Elementary realized that it can be often be confusing and complicated to find healthy snack foods appropriate for the classroom.  As a result, the HST created a list of healthy snacks that meet Smart Snack Standards issued by the USDA and followed by Orange County Public Schools.  The snacks are all mom/HST member approved. Many are sold in bulk at Costco or other cost-saving stores.

“We have some very dedicated parents and staff over here at Audubon Park Elementary who are dedicated to healthy life choices,” said Sean Paino, HST leader at Audubon Park Elementary.  “We came up with what we thought would be an acceptable list for healthy snacks.”

The list was sent home with the latest school newsletter so all parents can see the quick, healthy, and kid/mom approved snacks for school.

We love this list and hope you do as well!

Aloma Elementary Principal In The Park Press

Aloma pictureThe Park Press recently interviewed Principal Dr. Drew Hawkins from Aloma Elementary.  He talked about the end of this school year and what to look forward to at the beginning of next year.  Below is an excerpt taken from the article.

“Our final SAC meeting for the 2012-2013 school year will be on Tuesday, May 7 at 8:00 a.m.  We would like to thank our current SAC members for serving and appreciate their help through the year.  Potential vacancies for our SAC membership are announced in August, followed by the election of SAC members in September.  If you are interested in serving on SAC we would love to have your support.  Please keep this in mind as we look forward in planning for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year, and let us know if you would like to serve on the committee.

PTA will be hosting the following events during May: Book Fair from May 3-10; Mother’s Day Cakes on May 9 and May 10; Family Night at Barducci’s at the corner of University and Goldenrod on May 15 from 5:00-9:00 p.m; and Donuts for Dads on May 31 from 8:00-8:35 a.m.  PTA will also hold a general meeting on May 9 at 6:00 p.m. prior to the musical program to elect the new board members for the 2013-2014 school year.  We would like to thank the current board for all of their hard work this year for our students, staff, and school.”
