A fearless contingent of Winter Park area teachers, coaches, and Glenridge Middle School principal Trevor Honohan—playing as the Winter Park Gamers—will match ball handling skills against the professional Harlem Wizards team at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Winter Park High School (WPHS) gym to raise funds for Glenridge.
The fundraiser also includes two Healthy School Team Leaders on the Winter Park Gamers roster—Tom Kienle (Audubon Park Elementary) and Randi Topps (Brookshire Elementary)—as well as WPHS basketball coaches and possibly some members of the WPHS basketball team which this year won a state championship.
Wizard players travel the country providing entertaining basketball to raise funds for schools and charitable organizations, and in this case, funds raised will be used to add technology to the school.
Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for general admission at the door.
Glenridge Middle School’s Lion’s Pride Fund, headed by Becky Junod, has organized the event, and Glenridge students have helped promote it by creating and posting YouTube videos that include interviews with Winter Park Gamer players.
